Microsoft has been promoting Windows Vista as having features that provide a unique experience. The system is aimed to be user friendly and dynamic. Microsoft has worked on Vista at two levels; they have updated existing windows features and introduced new features. Among the many features of Windows Vista are the following gleaned from published documentation, blogs, and releases by Microsoft.

1. The interface is said to be state of art and has been called Aero, authentic, energetic, reflective, and open. User friendly, the interface is touted to be cleaner, streamlined, and aesthetic.

2. The windows shell for Vista is expected to reach for new standards in Operating Systems. The organization, navigation, and search capabilities are all user friendly and fast. The tool bar and one click access are devised to speed up operations.

3. Instant search is expected to revolutionize the system. Search boxes are integral to many applications.

4. Desk top gadgets positioned on the right hand side of the screen will enable users to view sports scores, weather, and other interesting things while continuing to work on the main screen.

5. The Media Player is expected to have great new features like graphic interface, photo display, systematic organization, and compatibility with Xbox360 and other media players.

6. The internet explorer, aimed to be genx, is expected to have a new user interface, tabled browsing, search box, easy printing, tabs, zoom, and other on tab functions. The system hopes to have advanced security protection and improved web standards support.

7. State of art back up and restore functions will enable users to schedule back ups of files. The system is designed such that back ups are incremental and only new material is backed up saving space as well as making the system easy to use. Mac or PC?

I have always had windows microsoft, but recently my computer has been acting slow, and its really virus-prone. i have decided to get a new home computer (not laptop; i already have one). i am a freshman in college with a few roommates. i left my computer in our living room/dining room (lol typical college life) for my friends to use. however, within one year of owning my brand new store bought computer, my computer has become full of memory, user accounts, pictures, and well....viruses. so i am giving it to my kid brother. now....what should i buy? should i follow the ipod craze and buy an Apple or stick with what i know and love?? also, i HATE vista. and im not sure if they still make XP. thanks, Katie

FIRST, you have to set new rules. You should NOT have allowed your friends use Your Computer. If you insist on allowing them to use your computer, have a technician set permissions so they cannot install anything and have the most limited privileges. Require users to login with a password to use your computer. That's one thing that will protect YOUR information.

Your computer is NOT virus prone. You apparently have not got adequate virus, advertisement, and trojan protection on your computer. And your friends have practiced unsafe internetting which is as dangerous to your computer as unprotected sex is for you.

SECOND, You Are getting rid of the computer because you don't want to do the work it takes to get rid of all the viruses and trash your friends have put on your computer. THAT is why your computer is running so slow. It needs a virus checker to clean and remove all viruses. It needs a trojan checker to remove the trojans.

THIRD, you may need to have a computer technician reinstall windows on the current computer so as to get rid of all the GARBAGE your friends have put there that's consuming all your memory and drive space. That will get rid of viruses and trojans and all the bad stuff your friends downloaded that's harming your computer.

You have a good usable computer. It's difficult to get a computer with XP instead of trashy Vista. The bottom line is you simply need to have the current computer cleaned up by a reputable technician, and I'd suggest using one at CompUSA if there's one near you.

If you give it to your brother, that's actually just another irresponsible action. Actually, Ubuntu (an excellent version of Linux) would be protected against viruses.

You should not change to Apple or jump on the ipod craze. You simply need to Learn How to take better care of the computer that you already have. Stick with What You know and love. You just need to learn how to be a responsible computer owner.

2) buy and install McAfee Virus checker. Update it regularly.
3) It will cost you a LOT LESS to pay a technician to reinstall your Windows XP and clean the viruses and trojans and all your friends' TRASH off your computer, then it will cost to buy a new computer.
4) If you don't do this, your next computer, using it as you have the current one, will simply end up in 1 year in as bad shape as your current computer.
